Emergency Services & Disaster Preparedness

Emergency Services

All of SMBI is well serviced by emergency services. This includes Ambulance, Rural Fire Service, Police, SES, Coast Guard and Volunteer Marine Rescue.

Not all that long ago there were no permanent Emergency Services on any of the Islands. Over time that has increased to the point where it is today, and these services continue to increase to meet the needs of the community.

To find out more about the Emergency Services available to SMBI residents and visitors, please have a look at the Emergency Services page.

Disaster Preparedness

As there is a single source of water, a single source of grid power and a single method of transport to SMBI, residents need to take a serious look at their disaster preparedness. We are at a higher level of risk than mainland Australia.

There are some simple things that can be done to ensure you are as prepared as you can be for these and other situations when they occur.
