Translink GoCard Information
- Travel with a Translink GoCard is at least 30% cheaper than travel without a GoCard using a paper ticket
- All GoCard and paper ticket trips are a one-way trip – you’ll need to purchase another for your return trip
- A number of concessions are available if you qualify
- When your concession card expires, so does your Translink Concession Card and you will need to update the new expiry date at a GoCard retailer. This can be done at the Macleay Island or Russell Island Post Office
- Thirty days before your card expires you will see a warning message on the card reader each time you touch on or touch off
- If the reader shows RED when you touch on, then the touch has not been counted and when you top up on the ferry, you will still need to touch on after topping up your account
- Please be sure that your touching on and off is correctly registered to save from being charged a higher trip fee
- If you touch on and fail to touch off, you will be charged a higher trip fee
- Travel between the Islands is free and you do not need to touch on or off
Transport Queensland Information
- Check your vehicle registration status
- Pay your vehicle registration online
- Own a vehicle and want to receive a registration certificate?
- Registering a vehicle to be primarily used on SMBI/Coochie/NSI?
- Restricted areas concessions information
- F4517 – Registration Concession Application – you will need to complete Q3 as “Restricted Area concession” and then Q5 as “a coastal island that is not joined to the mainland by a bridge”
- F3529 – Vehicle Details Inspection Sheet– you will need to complete Q10 as “Registered operator/representative”. This does not mean that you can drive an unroadworthy vehicle, just that you take the responsibility for its roadworthiness and do not need a Road Safety Certificate by a TMR approved agent
- Need to take an “Island Rego” vehicle to the mainland? Here is the current information from Transport and Main Roads regarding the Removal of Vehicle from Restricted area:
- From 7 July 2023, a vehicle with a restricted area concession can be used outside of the restricted areas.
- You must notify the Department of Transport and Main Roads within 14 days after a permanent change to the vehicle’s garage address. If your vehicle’s garage address changes to a location outside of the restricted areas the restricted area concession must be removed from your vehicle.
- Please note that this means if you need to take your Restricted Area Registered vehicle to the mainland for an extended period of time, this is now allowed as long as the vehicle is still officially garaged on SMBI.
