Marine 2 Southern Moreton Bay Islands Neighborhood Watch

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

SMBI Neighbourhood Watch was founded in 2023 and is a member of Neighbourhood Watch Queensland (NHW), which operates as a community-based crime prevention program to improve the quality of life within a neighbourhood, this by minimising preventable crime and promoting closer community ties. The program relies on communities working in partnership with Queensland Police in order to achieve these aims.

SMBI Neighborhood Watch (officially known as Marine 2 Southern Moreton Bay Islands Neighborhood Watch) has been established to cover the four Southern Moreton Bay Islands (Karragarra, Lamb, Macleay and Russell).

The Police Stations involved are Macleay Island, Russell Island and Redland Bay, as well as the Bayside Crime Prevention Unit.

Police – Queensland Police Service

The Police Officers across SMBI provide a valuable community service, as in other areas, including ensuring road users are complying with relevant Laws, following up on reports of criminal activities, performing welfare checks on residents, assisting with disaster management response where applicable, and various other community activities. Should there need to be additional Officers on any of the Islands, there is a Police Barge that can bring additional vehicles across quickly from Redland Bay, along with additional Officers.
